Aistear Activities this month

Our these for the month of April is Animals. We have spent the last two weeks learning all about the different types of animals and where they live. We know that Spring is a very busy time on the farm for both the farmers and all the animals.

For Aistear this month we have set up the Vets surgery down in our role play area! We spent all last week brainstorming what we would need for the role play area and we finally got to play in it this week. We have loads of animals down in the vets such as bears, dogs, cats, caterpillars, rabbits and even lions! Some of the children have even brought in their own teddy to bring down to the vet.

Here are some pictures of us playing down in the Vets.
Here we are filling out forms about what exactly is wrong with our pets

Each group takes turns at being the vet in the role play area. We have had loads of sick animals visiting the vets the past few days. Lions with really high temperatures, dogs who were knocked down and had broken arms and legs, caterpillars who lost all their legs and even rabbits with ear infections! Teacher is delighted to say that they have made a brilliant recovery thanks to the wonderful vets in our Room 6!

We also set up a Farm for our small world area for Aistear. The boys and girls are able to name all the  baby animals and their mammies on the farm.
  • Baby Horses are called foals
  • Baby cows are called calves
  • Baby sheep are called Lambs
  • Baby pigs are called piglets
  • Baby chickens are called chicks
  • Baby goats are called Kids
Here are some pictures of us playing with the farm yard
